Read the three articles and answer the questions that fellow, remember there are written part too. Fellow the directions.
It is not an essay, it’s a test with questions. Please answer each question for the exam. Short answers are preferred. It’s just questions and answers. Show work if necessary. Questions are attached. 1-19. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please read the paper and annotate/comment on sections of the paper. Please follow the grading rubic.
We will discuss how advances in our ability to study genetics and the entire human genome can impact health and health care. Please consider the following questions as you read the paper and discuss it. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every last detail in the article – that’s OK. This paper is not as technical as some of the others we’ve read – it is written for a more general scientific audience, not researchers in the field – and offers a perspective on current research.
What kinds of things have we learned from the Human Genome Project? What insights have we gotten from it?
What are some of the important principles for human genomics research, and why are the important?
How much as been invested in genomic research?
We’ve also sequenced genomes of many other species. In what ways is that information important?
How is an understanding of genomics important in society today?
What have been and are some of the barriers in genomics research, and why is it important to overcome them? What is being done to overcome them?
What are some important areas of genomic research?
The focus of the paper should be on the main subject…specifically addressing your understanding of the process you chose and how it relates to cancer formation or prevention. You may also address specific examples of a type of cancer that may arise when things go wrong with your chosen process. I would also like to see you list risk factors that are likely to contribute to this specific process going awry and the causing of cancer. Obviously, you will have to read other resources (text-based, internet-based, etc) to find specifics and information on any of these processes and their roles in formation of cancer, but do not utilize quotes, full sentences, or paraphrased material at all in writing up your paper….The ideas written in your term paper should be completely your interpretation of what you read/learned.
Select one inherited disorder related to a metabolic disorder of a macronutrient. Briefly summarize the genetics, metabolic pathway affected, symptoms, and nutritional management.
BIOLOGY PROMPT: Choose and explore a currently controversial topic in biology (cannot be climate change). The topic can be from something we have covered in class or in the textbook. If the topic you desire is not in the textbook or lectures, it must be approved by me first or you will not receive credit. Introduce your topic, what is it? What makes it controversial? To whom is it controversial? Present arguments supporting, somewhat supporting and non-supporting of your topic. Lastly, address any foreseable future outcome for this topic. Will it continue to be controversial in the future? How come? Is there evidence of this outcome?
Your paper will be:
4 Pages (1000 words +/- 50 words)
APA Format Work Cited page & In-text citations. No Cover Page Needed
At least 1 Primary Literature Peer Reviewed Article & 2 Scholarly Peer Reviewed Articles or University Press Books.
IF CLIMATE PROMPT: At least 1 peer reviewed article must be from a journal from your major or field addressing climate change or its issues.
IF BIOLOGY PROMPT: At least 1 peer reviewed article must be from a biology journal.
At least 2 other outside sources (websites, twitter, etc. etc.)
ALL Work Cited must be incoporated in your Essay
Cited work should be paraphrazed. Quotations should only be used if quoting a person.
Either a Word document (.doc) or PDF document (.pdf)
PLEASE MESSAGE ME WITH TOPIC SO IT CAN GET ACCEPTEDCBY PROFESSOR BEFORE YOU CAN CONTINUE WRITING IT.
***Address the following prompts and case studies (See Instructions Attached) to complete this discussion post.***
1. Pick one type of Muscular Dystrophy and discuss it. Posts should consist of at least 200-300 words.
PLEASE CLICK LINK OR COPY AND PASTE TO A NEW BROWSER: https://www.nichd.nih.gov/health/topics/musculardys/conditioninfo/types
2. There is no known cure for muscular dystrophy and the causes are complex and multifold. Stem Cell treatment, however, as a cutting-edge treatment is showing some initial hope for success. Please research and discuss.
Topics need to focus on biology (evolution, ecology), this is very broad so many topics do qualify. Ask if you are unsure how to ensure your topic is appropriate.
For presenting a scientific topic of your choosing, you must include 2 peer-reviewed studies (primary research is the actual experimentation done by scientists). Please provide background information relevant to your topic and explain the significance of the articles to research in this area. Presentations should contain original figures (as well as other supporting figures or short videos) from these studies with the proper citations. Remember to thoroughly explain figures so everyone can understand. Copying and pasting is considered plagiarism. All writing should be in your own words. Students should compare and criticize different studies. Please do not simply restate the findings the authors provide.
In addition to the two peer-reviewed research articles you will be discussing, there must be a minimum of 3 other supporting peer-reviewed articles (these do not have to be primary research). THIS BRINGS YOUR MINIMUM TOTAL OF REFERENCES TO 5. You can obviously have more, but I will be looking for 5.
To make sure your research is progressing you will submit an annotated bibliography of your 5 peer reviewed article (publish midway through term). The annotated bibliography must be on the same issue as your research presentation and is the source material from which it is created. The annotated bibliography will contain three parts for each article:
The bibliographic entry cited in a correct format (see APA Reference Guide link) Make sure to follow the APA template for the format of your citations.
summary of the articles main theme (at least 4 typed lines as a stand alone paragraph); Cutting and pasting from the article or the internet is plagiarism and will result in a zero for the assignment; and,
a detailed summary of the importance of the article to your topic (at least 14 typed lines as a stand alone paragraph). How is the article relevant to your topic (10 lines)? Why did you use this source (2-3 lines)? How reliable is this source (1 line)? In total, each annotated entry should be at minimum 18 typed single-spaced lines in length.
Presentations should include title slide, 2-3 introduction slides that provide background on the topic you are focused on, “study slides”, which include the purpose, hypothesis, materials and methods, results and conclusions from the 2 studies you are discussing, an overall “conclusion” slide, and a “works cited” slide. This means you will have approximately 15-20 slides total. SEE EXAMPLE FOR FORMAT EXPECTATIONS.
Your works cited slide will list all your references in APA format. Figure sources must also be cited.
If you have previously done this sort of assignment for me, or any other professor, you are required to present on a different topic. If you have previously done an assignment like this, please write in the notes section on title slide what semester and/or class you did this for, and what your previous topic(s) was.
To keep you on track with this assignment you will submit
Your topic title and one peer-reviewed journal article on this topic (link or pdf) posted to a discussion board during the first week
A publish annotated bibliography listing your 5 peer reviewed (2 of which are primary research) articles, a brief summary of each article and a description of the importance of that article to your presentation topic. You will receive feedback on this.
A final version of your annotated bibliography
A recorded version (video or voice-over of a PowerPoint) of your 10-minute presentation posted to the blackboard. Be sure to see the FAQs Discussion Board Post for instructions.
Please find the due dates in the schedule.
Read Case Report
Step 1: Introduction- Summarize case Report (1-1.5 Pages)
Step 2: Causes of Low Potassium (HypoKalemia) ( 2 Pages)
Step 3: What effects on the body system ( 6 Pages)
***10th page has to be the reference page***
No cover page
Report is attached below
For your final paper, you will revise both your publishs and combine them to form a complete scientific paper with Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Literature Cited.
As you work on preparing your final paper, make sure that you are taking your TA’s suggestions into account and editing your paper. Re-writing is as important step in good writing as the initial publishing process. The final paper is worth 75 points total, so it is a substantial assignment. If you are continuing on in a biology and wildlife degree, this type of paper is one you will continue to write, so the things you are working on here will give you a good foundation to build on in future courses.
As a reminder, there are several resources that provide guidance on your paper:
finding and using scientific literature (finding appropriate references to cite in your paper)-ATTACHED
writing a scientific-ATTACHED
rubric we will use to evaluate your final paper-ATTACHED
If you have questions or want your TA to look over any revisions before the paper is due, be sure to get in touch far enough ahead to get your questions answered or get the feedback you’re looking for.
Attached is both of the annotated parts that need to be combined to make 1 entire paper. Please use the feedback to create the scientific paper.
